Strengthen Intestinal Microflora

MSP[RS] Resistant Starch helps strengthen intestinal microflora by crowding out harmful bacteria that can lead to scours in swine.  MSP[RS] Resistant Starch acts as a prebiotic feeding the healthy bacteria in the gut.  These healthy bacteria grow and proliferate, physically crowding out bad bacteria.

The healthy bacteria produce Volatile Fatty Acids (VFA’s) like propionate, butyrate and acetate which lower the pH in the hindgut, creating an unfavourable environment for bad bacteria. There are also indications that animals fed MSP[RS] have a more robust mucosal layer, which is another mechanism to reduce pathogen load in these animals, and in the litter.  Experts agree that we need to start developing the microflora early, and MSP[RS] is safe to give piglets on the first day.
